Overview

The Senior SQL Server / MongoDB Database Administrator (DBA) is a senior-level technical and administrative role responsible for managing large-scale, mission-critical database environments. The role will have a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server and a secondary focus on MongoDB, with responsibilities spanning environment builds, capacity planning, installations, configurations, high availability setup, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring.

 

The DBA will also act as a consultant to development teams, ensuring database-aware design, efficient coding practices, and system reliability. A strong emphasis is placed on automation (via PowerShell, scripting, and configuration management) to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.


While the primary focus is on SQL Server and MongoDB, experience with Oracle or cloud-native database technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI or Atlas) is a plus.

 

Based in Katowice, Poland (on-site or hybrid as required)

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server and MongoDB databases across multiple environments.
  • Plan and manage storage allocation, ensuring scalability and future growth.
  • Create and manage core database objects, schemas, and security roles.
  • Implement and maintain database security, compliance, and auditing standards.
  • Develop and maintain physical data models and enforce database standards.
  • Proactively monitor and tune databases for performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Implement robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies (Always On, replication, log shipping, PBM/MongoDump).
  • Develop and maintain automated administration scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or similar).
  • Implement archiving solutions and data lifecycle management.
  • Review database code and development activities to ensure efficiency, scalability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database issues.
  • Mentor development teams on SQL coding standards, performance tuning, and query optimization.
  • Continually refine DBA standards, procedures, and automation practices.
  • Provide on-call support and occasional travel as required.

Qualifications

Education:

 

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

 

Experience:

 

  • 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise-scale environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with high availability solutions (Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping).
  • 5+ years of advanced T-SQL development and SQL tuning.
  • 5+ years supporting developers with application design, schema optimization, and query performance.
  • 5+ years of hands-on MongoDB administration experience (replica sets, sharding, backups, monitoring).
  • 5+ years of Windows Server / Windows Core and/or Linux administration experience.
  • PowerShell scripting expertise for automation (DBATools.io a plus)
  • Experience with automation/configuration management (Ansible, Terraform, BitBucket, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools (SQL Profiler, Extended Events, SolarWinds/DPA, DataDog, PMM)
  • Exposure to cloud database technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Experience integrating databases with DevOps/CI/CD pipelines

 

Skills:

 

  • Deep expertise with SQL Server internals (Always On, clustering, replication, query store).
  • Knowledge of MongoDB internals (replica sets, sharding, WiredTiger, security).
  • Proficiency in T-SQL coding and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell automation (DBATools.io, backup, monitoring, deployment, user management).
  • Familiarity with Linux scripting
  • Strong requirements-gathering, analysis, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate across teams and levels.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Reports to the Manager – Database Operations.
  • Collaborates with DBA team members, developers, and infrastructure engineers.

  • Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and service providers as needed.
  • Participates in professional user groups and industry forums.
