Overview

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test is a position that combines skills in design and architecture; development; testing and quality assurance. Working as a principal software development engineer in test require computer science skills; soft skills like communication and time management; people management skills.

 

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test is a computer industry professional who can design, build and configure test automation infrastructure, produce and assess programming code to make automated testing programs, lead peer reviews, make code reviews, assess the code and make changes as needed to enhance the end-user experience. Person in this position is able to mentor and cross-train others on test automation techniques and approaches; write test automation code; analyse test automation results, identify and report root causes for test failures; make recommendations to improve product reliability, customer experience, performance and quality assurance best practices and processes.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Directs day to day activities of a Test Automation team
  • Establish, monitor and maintain automated testing.
  • Ensures all coding standards and best practices are being met.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues with the automated tests.
  • Improve existing testing automation or design more efficient testing.
  • Understand the needs of a product to advise on and design test automation strategies.
  • Compile and report results in an automated manner and in real time.
  • Communicate technical information with team members.
  • Independently determine and develop approach to solutions for a wide range of
  • Act as a subject matter expert in application functionality on occasion
  • Mentors and cross-trains other Test Automation Engineers on processes and coding best practices.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science or related engineering field, or equivalent work
  • ISTQB or similar certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in Development/SQA role
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with database designs and scripting language
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with web service testing and web service testing tools
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Java.
  • Experience with Selenium-like automation testing frameworks and automation testing of Web-applications.
  • Experience with QA processes and methodologies (automated and manual test processes, black/white box testing, load and performance testing, test case design, scripting and execution, automated test tools)
  • Experience with functional testing of multi-tier Web applications.
  • Experience working with QA tools and techniques, bug tracking systems, test design and execution.
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages. One or more of the following (C++, C#, ASP.Net, PHP)
  • Experience with Mentoring and Cross training junior team members.
  • Comprehensive SQL and XML
